Day 1: June 16, 2010
Bienvenue a Montreal! After a long bus ride, the students were super excited to explore the city and immerse themselves in the French culture. We started the tour with a walk around Old Montreal visiting sites like Marche Bonsecours, City Hall where Charles de Gaulle exclaimed “Vive le Quebec libre!” during Expo ’67 and Champs de Mars where we had our group picture. With all the excitement of the trip, the students had worked up quite an appetite so we all ate lunch in the historical Place Jacques Cartier which was a popular meeting place even before Europeans settled there! Students had some free time to roam Old Montreal and buy some souvenirs for themselves (and for their parent and siblings back home of course!) From there, we paid a visit to the beautiful Notre Dame Basilica, a Montreal landmark where famous Canadians like Mario Lemieux and Celine Dion had their weddings. Dinner soon followed and shortly after, the trip to our hotel. Students had some more free time once at the hotel to talk about all the days activities and funn things that they had learned. They were all in bed pretty early though so that they could be prepared for a full day of fantastic fun that awaits us tomorrow!
