The group looked remarkably good after the long flight from the West Coast as they arrived at. London’s Heathrow Airport. Sfter leaving the suitcases at our hotel in Wembley, we headed into central London on the “ Tube” what we call London’s Underground train system. We started at Waterloo station, named after the final land battle in 1815 which saw Napoleon finally defeated. We walked over a bridge across the Thames, past Benjamin Franklin’s London House to Trafalgar Square. This was to comemorate Admiral Nelson - his defeat of the Spanish and French navies and his death at the ned of the battle. We had some free time in Covent Garden, once London’s wholesale fruit and vegetable market, but now transformed into a complex of shops, cafes snd public entertainment areas. We walked past “ Georgian “ i.e. buildings from the 1700s, to Bloomsbury, home of many writers in the early 20th century , past the British Museum, to our restaurant. The weather was in the upper 50s and dry, so the streets were full of Londoners and tourists from all around the world. We had Fish and Chips , prepared in the traditional British way, and then took the tube hone for an early night and a chance to catch up on some sleep. Tomorrow will be another busy day, in London and Windsor .
