Day 4: June 6, 2024
We started our day about 9:00 a.m. Drove south from Healy Alaska toward Talkeetna. Our first stop was Mary's McKinley view Lodge. Unfortunately Mount McKinley currently known as Denali was not visible. But we were able to use the restroom and buy a snack. We also wrote postcards to mail later today. Our next stop was Wal Mike's, a very eclectic and unique store. Then we arrived in Talkeetna about 1:00 p.m. Gave everyone until 2:30 p.m. to eat and look around town. Then we got ready to do a hike at the XY lakes trailhead. It took us 30 minutes walk to get to the trailhead then we had an hour to walk around the lake. Then it was time to take the train from Talkeetna to Anchorage. Dinner on the train was included. We sat in the Dome upper deck and dinner was served one floor below us. Everyone seemed to enjoy dinner. We even saw moose and bears out the window of the train. Arrived about 8:15 p.m. on the train into Anchorage. Then a short ride to the hotel where everyone will be staying for three nights.
