Day 1: April 5, 2011
Our first day in NYC began under gray, rainy skies, but that did not dampen our enthusiasm! After dropping our bags at the hotel, we jumped on the subway and headed to our first stop, the soaring Grand Central Station, where we enjoyed lunch and checked out this stunning architectural marvel. We walked down 42nd Street to the main branch of the New York Public Library, where we saw the main reading room as well as the original Winnie the Pooh Doll. A quick look at Bryant Park led us to a walk up 5th Avenue, passing the Diamond District and Rockefeller Center before visiting St. Patrick's Cathedral. We spent about an hour shopping at stores like FAO Schwarz Toys, Tiffany's, and the Apple Store. We jumped back on the subway and headed for the Empire State Building, where we ate dinner before heading up to the 86th floor observation deck. By this point the weather had cleared and the vistas seemed endless. A great ending to our perfect first day in NYC.
