Today we visited the beautiful Mayan archaeological zone of Uxmal, there we saw the pyramids that are more than 1000 years old, as well as the governor's palace and the temple of the divine, the history of this place is fantastic . We have learned a lot about the ancient Mayan civilization, their beliefs, traditions and religio. In some pyramids climbing is still allowed so we had spectacular views to take photos. We also visited some areas recently opened to the public. After the visit to Uxmal we had the idea of visiting a flooded cavern called cenote that was considered by the ancient Mayans as sacred sites and entrance to the Underworld. The cenote is located one hour from Uxmal and we had the opportunity to swim in it It was very refreshing to swim in the water at this site, it was perfect after visiting the ancient Mayan city. During our free time we swam, jumped from a platform into the water and also had lunch with a local family who prepared for us chicken tacos, guacamole and mango with chili. Lunch was delicious. After this visit we returned to Mérida, there we went to dinner at a downtown restaurant located in a restored colonial house and we tried delicious local food again.
