London, Paris & Central Europe

Today we travelled from London to Paris. We had to leave the hotel at 5am 😧, in order to get to the station 2 hours before our train (leaving the UK on an international train is like taking a plane in term of security). We caught the Eurostar train at 8am and arrived in Paris at 11.30 (although the journey is only 2½ hours, there is a 1 hr time difference. We transferred to our hotel by bus, then we grabbed some lunch before learning how to use the métro (Paris subway) to get into the city centre. The group had tickets for the Louvre and we were lucky the line for security through the pyramid entrance was quite short, so they were able to enter in just a few minutes. When they came we took some photos with the glass pyramid - the modern entrance to the old building. Then we got back on the metro for a couple of stops and took the scenic route to our restaurant for dinner, passing the Hotel de Ville (City Hall), Notre Dame Cathedral (still not reopened after the fire in 2019) and the River Seine to arrive in the Latin Quarter to eat. After dinner we had some free time for shopping and looking around, then several of us got caught in a rain shower on our way back to the meeting place. We ducked into an ice cream shop, where of course we just HAD to buy an ice cream!
