Lancaster and Slaughterback 's Insider's London To

June 5, 2017  -  June 12, 2017

It was an early start for us all today- we met for breakfast in the hotel at 7am and were ready to leave at 8am sharp! A very smart bus picked us up and we headed to the Natural History Museum where Patrick, our official Blue Badge guide joined us. Over the next three hours we were treated to Patrick's amazing knowledge and understanding of London (as well as his scorn for cyclists and opinions on tomorrow's general election!) and saw some of London's most impressive sights including St Paul's Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament, a glimpse of Buckingham Palace (we'll be back for a better look later in the week) and finishing up at Tower Bridge. Patrick and our bus left us there, and we hopped onto a big red double decker bus to Covent Garden- a great place to have lunch. The afternoon was spent between Harrods department store- an easy place to lose a few hours (and a few thousand dollars!), and a host of free museums and galleries for those not so into the shopping. We took a walk through Hyde Park on the way to dinner in Mayfair (London's swankiest neighbourhood). On the menu tonight was a traditional roast dinner (usually served on Sundays here in England) complete with Yorkshire pudding (a delicious savoury piece of baked pancake batter originating in the North of England). After dinner we decided to head to the London Eye, an enormous ferris wheel which some braved a ride on. A packed day, think we'll all sleep well tonight!
