The pace of the tour is relaxed and there are ample stops for photos, explanation of the sights, something to drink and to rest. Cycle (and at times walk) and stop through the many hidden local communities in Bangkok. Visit a small local factory before you reach the pier. Take a short boat trip across the Chao Praya River in a long-tail boat. Cycle on elevated pathways past lush vegetation, coconut palms and banana trees. Make a stop at a local restaurant for an authentic Thai meal. After lunch, visit an ancient Buddhist temple away from the crowds and finish the tour at an open-air Muay Thai school showcasing Thai boxing, the national sport and cultural martial art of Thailand. Elephants World, a non-profit sanctuary for sick, elderly, disabled, abused and rescued elephants. Founded in 2008, the center’s goal is to give resident elephants a place where they can enjoy themselves in their natural environment. The conservation camp is located in peaceful natural surroundings. Visitors are welcome to volunteer at ElephantsWorld by taking part in a variety of activities including feeding and bathing the elephants; preparing special foods for the older elephants, and gathering and planting food for the elephants. Activities tend to differ each day, depending on the needs of the elephants. Activities at ElephantsWorld are on a join-in basis only Please bring a change of clothes (you will likely get dirty/wet), sunscreen, a hat, your camera and mosquito repellent. Please be mindful of local culture, clothing should cover shoulders and fall beneath the knee. You may also consider buying a bunch of bananas at one of the road stalls along the way to the camp in order to make new friends!

Children come from a variety of backgrounds and many come from Hill Tribes or from families who cannot afford their care. Temple schools provide housing, food and education to children who need assistance and support. Most large temples schools in Thailand have integrated their own primary (and secondary) schools on-site. To improve conditions for residents, classrooms are in need of renovation and construction to improve the structure and facade of the school. There may be an opportunity to teach English on a non-formal basis, help the children harvest their vegetable garden (for their studies and own consumption) or create activities and arrange workshops for hygiene, cultural exchange, environmental concerns and other important issues of your choice. The main task will focus on construction and renovation, expect outdoor work in the sun. Bring sunscreen, insect-repellent, a hat and suitable clothing.

At dawn, after an early wake-up call, visit a traditional Buddhist monastery and learn about day-to-day life, customs and the history of Buddhism. Enjoy breakfast at the monastery.

King Rama I began the construction one of the most impressive palaces in Southeast Asia in 1782 after he moved the capital from Thonburi to Bangkok. Formerly the residence of the early Chakri Dynasty kings, the buildings are now used by the King only for certain ceremonial occasions. The vast 94ha (233ac) grounds encompass more than 100 buildings including the Royal Residence and Throne Halls, government offices and the renowned Wat Phra Kaew, home to the most revered Buddha image in Thailand, the Emerald Buddha (which is actually made of jade or jasper, rather than emerald).
