Designed to commemorate Tennessee’s Bicentennial Celebration in 1996, this 11-acre park combines history and nature just outside the Capitol in downtown Nashville. Stroll down the Pathway of History or visit the Walkway of Counties to explore the state’s native plants, then spend a somber moment at the World War II Memorial as you listen for the sound of the 95-bell carillon playing the Tennessee Waltz.

Details: Parthenon landmark and museum visit
Originally built for Tennessee's 1897 Centennial Exposition, this replica of the Parthenon in Athens, Greece serves as a monument to what is considered the pinnacle of classical architecture. The plaster replicas of the Parthenon Marbles found in the Naos are direct casts of the original sculptures, which adorned the pediments of the Athenian Parthenon dating back to 438 B.C. The originals of these powerful fragments are housed in the British Museum in London. The Parthenon also serves as Nashville's art museum. Inside you will find a re-creation of the 42-foot statue Athena is the focus of the Parthenon just as it was in ancient Greece, the permanent display of American paintings from the Cowan Collection, the history of the Nashville Parthenon dating back to the 1897 Tennessee Centennial Exposition, and a variety of temporary shows and exhibitions.

Belmont Mansion is an Italian villa constructed between the years 1849 and 1859. Through the years, it has been the summer home for Nashville socialite Adelicia Acklen and her family, temporary headquarters of the Union army, and an all-girls college and seminary. One of the most elaborate antebellum homes in the South, with 36 rooms and 19,000 square feet, the entire Belmont estate was built, furnished, and landscaped by the Acklens and boasted such luxuries as lavish gardens, an art gallery, a bowling alley, and a zoo.
