Packing for your Trip

Looking for some time-tested advice on how to pack for your trip? You’ve come to the right place.

5 Packing Do’s and Don’ts

Do pack appropriately, given the weather and your itinerary.

Not having the correct clothing can definitely impact your trip, so it’s important to take all scheduled activities into account when packing.

  • Layers are always a good idea because the weather can be unpredictable.
  • Bring a pair of sneakers for comfortable walking no matter where you go.
  • Pack one dressy outfit, as many cathedrals and religious sites require that shoulders and knees be covered.
  • Bring clothing that can be mixed and plan to wear each outfit twice (you’ll save a lot of space in your suitcase!).

Do pack light.

You are allowed one medium-sized suitcase (26” x 18” x 10.5” or smaller) and one carry-on, such as a backpack, handbag, or small duffel bag. While packing, bring only the essentials. Remember, you are responsible for carrying your own luggage, so don’t make it so heavy that you can’t pick it up—and don’t forget to leave room for souvenirs!

Do make your luggage stand out.

Tie a brightly coloured ribbon to the handle of your luggage to make it easy to pick out at a crowded baggage claim.

Don’t bring full-sized toiletries.

Bring your shampoo and liquid toiletries in smaller sizes to reduce space and weight in your luggage.

Don’t pack everything in your suitcase.

On the off-chance that your luggage gets lost or doesn’t make it to your destination immediately, we recommend a small carry-on with your most important items like any medications, snacks, and an extra change of clothes.

Be sure to check with your airline for any baggage restrictions.
