The Ivy League Model UN Conference (ILMUNC)

The Ivy League Model UN Conference (ILMUNC) is known as a unique educational experience because of its unparalleled focus on international affairs and networking. As a WorldStrides organization, we are thrilled to now offer this exciting opportunity to our Canadian travellers.

flags_012Over 3,000 motivated students will converge on downtown Philadelphia to participate in ILMUNC, one of the largest Model United Nations conference in the world. As one of the oldest and most prestigious Model United Nations simulations in the country, ILMUNC provides high school students with an unparalleled opportunity to actively study and debate the world’s most pressing issues.

To ensure every participant’s success, ILMUNC offers three pre-conference training sessions: one for new delegates, one for more experienced delegates, as well as one for international delegates. The first training session will explain basic rules and tips to succeed at Model United Nations conferences, although any delegate who wishes to enhance their familiarity with parliamentary procedure is welcome to attend. The second, an advanced skills and writing workshop, is for delegates who want to hone their skills and learn strategies to employ when writing resolutions and in other situations. Both sessions will last about an hour. Additionally, ILMUNC will continue to provide an interactive online training video, which will be on the ILMUNC website in the fall. This video will give delegates the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the rules of debate before the conference begins.

The opening ceremonies will cover the storied history of this event so students will quickly understand the significance of the experience they are about to have. ILMUNC was founded at the University of Pennsylvania in 1984. Ever since the conference organizers have been striving to make an impact on students and teachers’ lives by providing opportunities to be involved in international-affairs-related conversations and activities on campus, regionally and abroad. ILMUNC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization run by undergraduates who host to high school students from across Canada, the United States and around the world.

But it isn’t all work with no play! There will be plenty structured networking time for students and faculty to mix and mingle. From ice skating to activities fairs, dances and a movie night, students will build lasting friendships that span continents during their time together.
